Julian WolfreysJulian Wolfreys (BA University of Sussex, 1986; MA Clark University, 1988; DPhil, University of Sussex, 1993) has taught at the universities of Luton, Dundee, and the University of Southern California. His teaching and research is concerned with 19th- and 20th-century British literary and cultural studies, literary theory, the poetics and politics of identity, and the idea of the city.

Professor Wolfreys is the author of numerous books and essays on various aspects of literary theory, as well as nineteenth- and twentieth-century English literature and culture. Most recently he has published Occasional Deconstructions (2004) and Writing London Vol. II: Memory, Materiality, Spectrality (2004) He has, in addition, recently edited or co-edited Glossalalia (2003), Thinking Otherwise: Difference and Pedagogy (2004), and The J. Hillis Miller Reader (2004), as well as editing an edition of Richard Marsh’s The Beetle (2004). Publications this year include The Same Story… With a Difference: Pickwick’s Vision and a second edition of Key Concepts in Literary Theory. In addition to these, he has also edited the following three volumes for Edinburgh University Press: Modern North American Criticism and Theory: A Critical Guide, Modern British and Irish Criticism and Theory: A Critical Guide, and Modern European Criticism and Theory: A Critical Guide.

Professor Wolfreys is also currently working on several book projects, including a third volume of essays on the literary representation of London, Writing London: Inventions of the City, from Pepys to the Graphic Novel (Palgrave Macmillan); Dickens to Hardy 1832–1884 (Palgrave Macmillan); Thomas Hardy (Palgrave Macmillan); and Jacques Derrida: A Guide for the Perplexed (Continuum). He has also writing The Literary Studies Companion (Palgrave Macmillan) and Introducing New British Fiction: Novel Inventions (Edinburgh UP). He is, additionally compiling and editing, with John Leavey, Derrida: A Concordance, Glossary, and Bibliography (Edinburgh UP).
