Graduate Student Handbook

Statement on Teaching in the English Dept.

Teaching reading and writing to undergraduates is one of the principal missions of the English Department at UF. Teaching undergraduates is also the principal source of income for support of graduate students in our MA, MFA, and PhD Programs. The Department, therefore, seeks to award the available teaching assistantships to students who merit them not only by virtue of their proven skills in scholarships and criticism but also by virtue of their proven skills in effective oral communication at all levels.

All prospective applicants to our Program should take this policy into consideration as they make their plans.
